Growing Herbs as Medicine: A Path to Self-Reliance in Urban Spaces

In an era marked by rapid urbanization and a burgeoning dependence on commercial agriculture, the disconnect between urban dwellers and their food sources has grown ever more pronounced. Cities like Hyderabad, with their dense populations and sprawling concrete landscapes, epitomize this detachment. The consequence is not merely the consumption of genetically modified foods (GMOs) laden with chemicals, but also the heightened vulnerability to illnesses exacerbated by poor diet and limited access to organic, nutrient-rich produce. Amidst this landscape of compromised health and skyrocketing medical expenses, the practice of growing medicinal herbs organically at home offers a beacon of hope. Cultivating herbs such as basil, mint, and turmeric in small urban spaces is not only a step toward self-reliance but also a proactive measure for maintaining health and well-being. Ethical Animal Husbandry in Food Foresting

Permaculture is a design approach that aims to create sustainable and self-sufficient agricultural systems that work in harmony with natural ecosystems. Integrating permaculture principles into animal husbandry practices can further enhance ethical considerations in agriculture. Here's how permaculture principles can be applied to ethical animal husbandry: Integration : Permaculture emphasizes the integration of different elements within a farming system to create mutually beneficial relationships. This can involve integrating animals into diverse agroecosystems, such as incorporating livestock into rotational grazing systems or using animals for natural pest control in orchards and gardens. Observation and Interaction : Permaculture encourages farmers to observe and interact with their animals and the surrounding environment to better understand their needs and behaviors. This can lead to more informed decision-making regarding animal welfare and management practices. Natural Patt...

Five Layer Farming

Five-layer farming in permaculture epitomizes the harmonious integration of various plant species, fostering resilience, biodiversity, and sustainability. By mimicking the structure of natural ecosystems, this agricultural paradigm not only yields abundant and diverse crops but also exemplifies a holistic approach to land management. As we grapple with global challenges in agriculture, Five-Layer Farming emerges as a beacon, showcasing how sustainable practices can be both productive and ecologically beneficial. Embracing this model not only promises food security but also presents a blueprint for a regenerative future in agriculture. Canopy Layer: At the apex of the system is the canopy layer, consisting of tall fruit and nut trees. These provide shade, and habitat for beneficial insects, and yield diverse, nutrient-rich crops. Embracing agroforestry principles, the canopy layer fosters biodiversity and efficient resource utilization. Sub-Canopy Layer: Beneath the towering tre...

Diwali-Mother

Image
As a kid every past year, the reoccurring Diwali means just same fascinating crackers, mesmerizing lights and yummy sweets and new cloths for me, but today as an young-adult who just stepped into the real world, when ever I think back about the festival of lights with a deep perspective, what i see is an occasion to evacuate the darkness and coldness from our life that we have been enslaved to in terms of surrender to our ignorance and imprisoned to the chains of social and personal en slavery with low self esteem and discrimination, Mother-by vedavyas No one else in this world can understand you more than your mother, she is source of light and life, she breaks the coldness of cowardice with her warmth love as encouragement and she enlightens our brains by wiping of our tears and sweeping out our ignorance .remember how a noble dramatic Indian mother blesses her child by adoring him/her with a veer-thilka on one auspicious day called Dussersa(vijaya dasami) and then she awaits ...

Odissi Krishna.

Image
As told by Odissi guru shri Sri Vishnu Tattva das, In ancient India the temple was the center of learning, culture, religion and art. In Orissa, in north eastern India, in the temple of Lord Jagannath, "Lord of the Universe", religious rituals, music, and dance were combined together to create the highly sculpturesque and devotional dance style, Odissi. According to archeological evidence, Odissi is one of the oldest surviving dance forms of India, dating back to the 1st and 2nd century BC; Mahari legend and oral tradition hold that its origins date back even further. In the Natya Shastra, an ancient text on music, dance, and drama, considered to be the 5th Veda, the sage Bharata Muni describes Odissi as the dance from Odra-Magadhi and Utkal, the traditional names for the region now known as Orissa. The graceful and flowing movements of this art form have been captured in stone in many temple sculptures throughout Orissa.   Painting of Odissi dan...
